The climate is changing now
Srivastava, Leena, 20 October 2009
Financial Chronicle

In meeting after meeting in the international arena, Indian delegates have supported the stand of their government, articulated brilliantly in 1992 during the Rio Conference, that the developed countries are historically responsible for emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs), which have put planet earth at peril.

It is this historical degradation of our environment that has fuelled the economic growth of developed countries and given them their current income levels and, therefore, it is they who need to pay for the ‘clean-up’ — the polluter pay’s principle. We have also concurred with the equity principle that bestows an equal right to consume (or pollute) earth’s resources on every citizen of the world.

Water...

Water

Will the wars of the 21st century be fought over water? The health of the human race and the global eco-system largely depends on access to clean water and sanitation.  Yet, according to the UNDP over 1 billion people worldwide lack access to clean water, and 2.4 billion do not have access to basic sanitation. With water and sanitation having such a heavy impact on poverty and economic and social development, political stability in water-deficient countries is in jeopardy.

Wastewater Gardens®--100% ecological

Wastewater Gardens® are a 100% ecological, low cost, low maintenance solution to the problem of human waste which is particularly important in coastal regions. Using no mechanical or moving parts and no chemicals, all wastewater is recycled via a gravity system into elegant, biodiverse gardens which produce lovely flowers as well as fruit and vegetables that can be eaten by humans and fodder crops for animal consumption. The systems are carefully sealed so no wastewater contaminates the soil, ground water or coastal waters.

Wastewater Gardens® were developed by the Planetary Coral Reef Foundation (PCRF) and they have been successfully installed in Mexico, Bali, the Bahamas, Belize, France, Poland, the Philippines, the US and Australia. To date, the largest Wastewater Gardens ® installed is located in the Xpu-Ha EcoPark near Akumal Mexico which was designed to recycle all the human waste produced by up to1500 visitors a day.

Biosphere Foundation’s (BF) primary goal is to inspire intelligent stewardship of our earth’s biosphere. Its projects aim to contribute to the existing body of knowledge about the biosphere and to inspire individuals to get involved through either “hands-on” fieldwork or virtual education/outreach programs.
