Internships

Internships are an essential part of the Imaging Foundation structure. These positions give interested students and other volunteers the opportunity to help complete Imaging Foundation goals. Interns' time may also be spent on an active expedition.   Because the Imaging Foundation does not have funding to cover student travel costs, interested interns must raise their own funding. The Imaging Foundation will help set a budget and suggest fundraising ideas, oftentimes prospective interns rely on past interns to help them through the fund raising process.

Fund Raising Strategies

Intern Contribution - Reach into your savings. People are always more willing to support you if they see that you are contributing yourself.

Family Donations - Write a friendly, descriptive note asking family members for support. Include the total amount you are trying to raise.

Family Friends - Get the word out. Keep a running total of how much you still need to raise and be informative. If family friends understand the importance of the program, and they think they can make a difference, they will be willing to lend a hand.

Community Benefit - If you are involved in church, temple or other community organization, seek their help. Perhaps organizing a fund raising luncheon or other event will help you achieve your goal. Imaging Foundation volunteers will help advise you about how a silent auction and other additions can improve your success!

Community Businesses - Personal and carefully written letters, sent to community business owners may yield surprising results. Do your research.   Find out the names of decision makers and address your correspondence to these key individuals. Make sure your letters include the reason you want to be involved in this project and how you think your involvement will help the community.

Developing Outreach Programs - Start working with your community before you go on expedition. Go into local elementary schools and teach whenever possible.   Young students look to upper classmen as their role models. Don't be afraid to help inspire and share your dreams and aspirations.

Public Relations - Call newspapers, local radio stations and even television.  Tell them what you want to do. Tell them what you are already doing and what you hope to do in the future. Volunteer work makes great human interest stories and your local press may be very interested in helping you achieve your goal. Remember to contact them after your return, to deliver an update.  

Research local grant opportunities - Your mother's company, your father's place of birth, a community matching fund could all spell success. You need to research what specific grants could provide a good fit for you.
