2006 Was Imaging Foundation's First Complete Year of Operation
In 2006 We:
Organized our still photography database. Now containing over 100,000 images, this database will be launched on our site in early 2007 and be used by teachers, students and other grassroots non-profit organizations.
Developed a catalog for our high definition video clips. Project included developing a video workflow, identifying flora and fauna and incorporating media into a user friendly searchable format.
Educational Productions
Created two educational podcast productions.Creative Solutions to Environmental Problemsa is a series produced for elementary school students. We will continue to add to this library of innovative teaching tools next year. Turtle Lifecycle and Shark Corridors are our kick-off titles. These video programs are available on our website to teachers and students as downloads. Our second production is available in English and in Spanish.
New Internship Program
Established our student internship program. Our first student intern, 16 year-old Kelsey Powell, joined us on our expedition to Sulawesi, Indonesia As part of her internship program, Kelsey spearheaded a fundraising effort that helped defray her travel costs. Also, answering part of our internship requirements, Kelsey has taught classes at her local elementary school. By hearing about Kelseya^??s travels, students learn about diving, geography, marine biology and international cultures from another student.
Reaching Out to Community Schools
Imaging Foundation Core Group members used IF production tools to give educational seminars to their local communities. Using our Creative Solutions series, Ana Martin delivered a seminar to the Lydia Jane Hawk Elementary School in Olympia, Washington, Kelsey Powell taught at Mary Devine Elementary School in Croydon, Pennsylvania.
SCUBA Show Presentations
Sent representation to SCUBA shows: Beneath the Sea, Long Beach and DEMA as well as Real Screen and Wildscreen in Bristol, England. While there, IF representatives met with leaders of many nonprofit groups who will benefit from the use of our still and video library.
Cayman Classroom
Used the capabilities of the Internet to simultaneously teach third grade students in Wisconsin and Grand Cayman.Students were shown and taught about the coral reef ecosystems. Equally important to the subject matter were the relationships forged between the two groups of geographically and culturally distinct students.
Acquired usage of a SONY F900 high definition camera and Amphibico Housing. This state-of-thea^??art package gives us the power to collect the best high definition video format available.
Website Overhaul
Complete website overhaul is nearing completion. Our new look will be released in early 2007 in both English and Spanish.
Donated Hours
Received thousands of donated hours from our expedition volunteers as well as core team members.
